Helpful Tips on Effectively Cleaning Your Bedroom

It’s nice to come home to a clean bedroom. Keeping your bedroom clean is not only hygienic, but it also promotes a calming and peaceful environment. You’ll also sleep better when you have a clean bedroom.

You may be busy and not able to clean your bedroom. You keep postponing and the next thing you know, your bedroom is already a mess. However, cleaning your bedroom is easier than you think. That is, if you know the tricks and methods.

Here are some helpful tips on how to effectively clean your bedroom:

Cleaning Your Room in General

  1. Don’t leave your things just laying around on the floor or the bed. For a start, put the dirty clothes on the hamper, fold or hang the clean clothes.
  2. Keep your bed clean. It is advisable that you change your beddings every other week. When washing the bedding, you can add some bath salts during the final cycle.
  3. Frequently vacuum the floor, especially the exposed areas. Also, once in a while, clean the nooks and corners, and the area under the bed.
  4. When cleaning the bedside table, furniture, blinds, and windows, use a thin and flexible dusting wand.
  5. To keep your room fresh, you need to open your windows regularly. This will give your room some air.

Making the Bed

It’s tempting to just get up and leave your bed be. However, it really does not take that much time to set up your bed.

First, you need to straighten out the mattress pad before putting on the fitted sheet.

When placing the top sheet, make sure that you center it on the bed with its wide hem at the top. The wide hem must extend at least a foot from the headboard. Then place the blanket right on top of the top sheet. Place it about one and a half foot from the headboard.

When both the sheet and the blanket are rightly positioned, tuck in the sheet and blanket on all sides of the bed. A neat way of tucking the sheet and blanket is the “hospital corner.” To do this, pick the edge around 15 inches or so from the foot of the bed, then make a diagonal fold. Then tuck the hanging part of the blanket and sheet underneath the bed’s mattress. Drop the diagonal fold and tuck it as well.

As a final step, turn the top of the sheet over the blanket on the headboard. Finish everything by neatly arranging the pillows. Make sure that when you change sheets, change the pillows as well.

If you don’t have time for fancy things like having a top sheet over the mattress, then just use a duvet. It’s much simpler. You just put it on top of the bed after cleaning and that’s it.

Cleaning the Mattress

To keep your bedroom clean, you must also pay attention to the mattress. Regularly keeping the mattress keeps your room fresh and hygienic.

The mattress is prone to becoming musty. To clean this, you’ll need commercial upholstery cleaner. If you don’t have one at home, you can also create your cleaning solution. Just mix together ½ teaspoon of liquid dishwashing soap and warm water. Whip the solution until it becomes a froth.

Apply the commercial cleaner or the cleaning solution you made on a soft brush or sponge. Use this to clean the mattress without soaking it. Work on small areas at a time until you are finished with one side. Make sure that you frequently change the rinse water.

After cleaning one side of the mattress, let it dry thoroughly. You can use a fan to dry the surface faster. Once dry, you should then work on the other side. Repeat the same cleaning process.

If you don’t want to brush the mattress, you can just freshen it up using baking soda. The baking soda will absorb the dampness and musty odor of the mattress. Just sprinkle some baking soda on the mattress and let it sit there for several hours. Vacuum the mattress to remove the baking soda and other particles.

Cleaning the Headboard and Footboard

If your board is made of brass or is varnished, you can clean it off using a dampened rag. Place some lemon oil on the rag and just rub the headboard and footboard lightly. However, if the headboard is made of wood, you can clean it using furniture polish. If it is made of laminate, you can use liquid abrasive or all-purpose cleaner.

Following all these tips, you can effectively clean your bedroom. Do it regularly. If you don’t have the time to clean, you can hire professional cleaning services.
