Dave Chappelle’s new Netflix comedy special “Sticks & Stones” has already made headlines for one routine about not believing the men accusing Michael Jackson of child molestation in “Leaving Neverland”, and now different routine from the special is also making the waves. During the performance, which was released on August 26, the “Chappelle’s Show” star offers his NSFW take on the Jussie Smollett scandal or, as he refers to him.
Smollett claimed he was attacked by two MAGA-hatted white men on a Chicago street in February, alleging they hurled racial and homophobic slurs at him as they placed a rope around his neck; after a police investigation uncovered numerous inconsistencies, the former “Empire” star was subsequently charged with filing a false police report. “All were furious, especially in Hollywood ‘Justice for Juicy’ and all,” jokes Chappelle.
“For some reason, African Americans, we were like oddly quiet,” he continues. “What they didn’t understand is that we were supporting him with our silence.
Because we understood that this was clearly lying. None of these details added up at all ‘Hey man, aren’t you from “Empire”? Does that sound like how white people talk?” He has also added that If you a racist and homophobic you don’t even know who this n***** is!” he adds. “You don’t watch ‘Empire’.” Chappelle continues to poke holes in the story told by Smollett (who maintains he’s telling the truth).
“Black people never feel sorry for the police, but this time we even felt sorry for the police,” he says, imitating the voice of a cop. “Okay, you left the house at 2 a.m., it’s minus 16 degrees. You were walking, you were walking. All right. And… and where were you going? Subway. Sandwiches? That’s when the men approached you… what did they have on? MAGA hats? MAGA hats in Chicago? [comments to another police officer] Find out where Kanye West was last night.” He also references Smollett’s claims about the rope and the allegations of two Nigerian brothers who allege Smollett paid them to stage the attack.
“He said they put a rope around his neck. Has anyone here ever been to Chicago? All right, so you been there. Now tell me, how much rope do you remember seeing? Like when did you get mugged, 1850? Who’s got the rope? Not only were they not white, but they were also very, very black. They were Nigerian, which is the funniest shit.
The whole story is funnier now!” Chappelle quips, putting on an exaggerated Nigerian accent to imitate the attackers: “This is MAGA country,”.
